I didn't get suckered by Google's April Fool's trick (in gmail) this year, and I've already sussed another couple out early on, but Yelp had me going for a minute there. I wonder if they played the same trick in all of their localities? I'm sure they did, but it has a special resonance in San Francisco.

Yelp: Local Yokels Only Please

I'm yelpin' it!

You come to Yelp because you're tired of searching around the city for all the coolest spots in town. You want the inside scoop on where locals just like you want to keep it real. And besides, your best buddy Charles shouldn't get the credit for knowing where to get an authentic burrito or how to dress like George Clooney, are we right? Charles isn't in charge, you are. And thanks to this issue of The Weekly Yelp, you will be.

Before you become the go-to "yelpster" amongst your pals, you have to dress the part, and for that Catherine O recommends stepping into the Gap. While their flagship store is nearly synonymous with unique must-have items (hello, cropped ruffle cardigan!) and a trendy style that's distinctly you, Mike V's admittedly been satiating his khaki fix for years at their lower-key Embarcadero location. With the fourth Indiana Jones film about to make George, Harrison and Steven another gagillion dollars, why not stay ahead of the fashion police and swing over to Banana Republic? It's a corporate jungle out there, according to Brandon B, so when he needs some "decent slacks and the occasional button-up," that's where he gets his jungle on. Look out tigers, Brando's on the loose!

Wait, what time is it? If you're thinking "time for a latte," you're reading Autumn K like a book, maybe even the coffee table variety -- she and other caffeinated yelpers perk up whenever you mention that the Starbucks in Laurel Heights is open 24-hours a day. If you want to get a little more localized, Geoff D gets downright yelpy about Peet's Coffee; their proximity to a clean, well-lighted public atrium makes this his defacto choice for impromptu meetings. While you're out saving the day Geoff, make ours a double soy!

Feeling hungry now? If you're ready to head south of the border, don't fall for a semi-cute chihuahua and instead order your Mex "fresh" at Chevy's or Chipotle like Eric W and Janney B do, respectively speaking. If you thought it was hard to find fresh roast beef in San Francisco, you might be right, but there is always Arby's. When dining in, think like Bella W and get cozy with their special horsey sauce, whydoncha? Want something more international in flavor? You almost feel like you're leaning into the Tower of Pisa when you feast at the Olive Garden. A fan of fowl? Try Hooters. And for the seafood lover in you, just set your sail and grab some tail at Red Lobster.

Where do you go to get local?
