From gonzostar. :)

- Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
- Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
- Post them here for everyone to guess.
- Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie. Comments are screened until the movie is guessed.
- NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search or other search functions

1. "Don't be so officious. You're not yourself when you're officious! That's the curse of a government job."

2. "I believe virtually everything I read, and I think that is what makes me more of a selective human than someone who doesn't believe anything."

3. "They're entitled to any innovation technology brings. Whether it's ten percent more of it or fifteen percent off of it, they're entitled to it! They're entitled to one of four important new ingredients! Why should anyone have to clean their teeth without important new ingredients? Why the hell shouldn't they have their CZT?"

4. "You look ravishing and I'd like to chew on your thighs."
"I thought we had a professional relationship."
"So I'll pay."

5. “Jim? Jim got kicked in the head by a horse back in February. Went around killing horses for a while, then he ate the insides of a clock and he died.”

6. "Nose army. "Wigwam."

7. "As long as the roots are not severed, all is well. And all will be well in the garden."

8. "I love you." "I know."

9. "What happened to you?" "I'm not finished."

10. "He's dead. They stuffed him with pages torn from his favorite book. Could you cook him?"

11. "Listen, this old system of yours could be on fire and I couldn't even turn on the kitchen tap without filling out a 27b/6... Bloody paperwork."

12. "What do you want?" "I want you to stop me."

13. "Well he had a point. Of course, he carried it a bit too far. He thought that every windmill was a giant. That's insane. But, thinking that they might be... well… all the best minds used to think the world was flat. — But, what if it isn't? — It might be round — and bread mold might be medicine. If we never looked at things and thought of what they might be, why, we'd all still be out there in the tall grass with the apes."

14. "Heineken? Fuck that shit! PABST! BLUE! RIBBON!"

15. "Oh, the reason I called... Could you find out who else is in town? I've made two spooks and a ghoul already, so if they've double-booked the job, and/or they're going to kill me, I'd like to know. If you could find that out, that'd be great."

7. Being There. Though that's probably not the quote I'd have chosen. :)

8. Star Wars, but I can't remember which of the original three episodes it comes from. Probably Empire Strikes Back.

14. Blue Velvet.

I knew you would get #7! What quote would you choose?

You're right about #8, but minus 1/4 point for "probably." :p

#14, but of course!

It pleases me immensely that you and dwenius were the first to respond.

Oh gosh. I don't know! There are so many great lines. "I like to watch." "Life is a state of mind." (From the eulogy at the end.) "Yes sir, all you got to be is white in America to get whatever you want!" "That was a very small room."

Haha, I love the first two, but they were too easy. I thought about the third one though.

I like weird movies. But some of these should be guessable just from clues in the quotes. I wouldn't expect ANYONE to guess some of them.

I find it interesting that Blue Velvet is on your list of favorite movies, btw. I found it fascinating and very memorable, but... I don't know that I'd ever call it a "favorite." :) But the quotes from it are stellar. Somehow I place it in the same head space (at least in my head) with Naked Lunch. IHNJH, IJLS "Mugwump jism."

I have a LOT of favorite movies, but I think it lands up there in the top 20 or 30 somewhere because it makes such a big impression. Also I really wanted a Dennis Hopper movie on this list.

I never made it through Naked Lunch. But one of the unguessed quotes above is a William S. Burroughs cameo. :)

EDIT: I mean I never made it through the Naked Lunch FILM. I did read and enjoy the book.

I can totally understand wanting a Hopper movie on the list, and well, Waterworld just isn't going to cut it.

There were five of us who went to see Naked Lunch in the theater in NYC when it came out. My friend and I sandwiched three slightly more mundane friends between us. They sat between us and gaped and stared in shock while we sat on the ends unable to breathe from laughing so hard at the sheer horror of it all. It was great. How can you not love giant talking combination typewriters/cockroaches/pulsating anuses?? And Roy Scheider! OMG Roy Scheider!

Ahem. Sorry. Still laughing 22 years later.

Probably I could not sit through it myself these days. No, I know I couldn't. But ah the memories.

It would be fun to see a movie co-directed by David Lynch and David Cronenberg....... don't you think?
