carumba... :(

and here I thought this was going to be another one of your interesting tidbits on dumb ass "regular" people...remember the preggo lady smoking a ciggie that was worried about construction noise in her neighborhood harming her fetus???!!! lol

...but of course, this was of a more globally serious note - prolly something the misinformed, or never informed, chain smoking pregnant types hardly ever stop to think about.

I read a lot of stuff like this thanks to many really cool groups and lists I'm on, but I rarely pass it on. I'm thinking about doing it more, just little posts like this, but I'm not sure. I have an LJ specifically devoted to articles and other nonpersonal stuff but I rarely use it. I don't know... Anyway, sorry I haven't gotten back to you re: scheduling something. I am leaving today (was supposed to be gone since Friday) so let's schedule something when I get back. :D

The more I read, the more I want to move to Canada...

(ps- thanks for keeping me informed)

I hear ya! I actually looked into the emigration requirements; it was very interesting. Have you ever checked it out? You get points for various things, like how much money you make, your health, whether you speak French... Basically I'd have to have a certain sum in the bank and as a self-employed person I'd have to promise to employ at least 2 (or was it 3?) Canadians within a year of arrival. It's an interesting prospect.

You're welcome! I am pondering posting more of the many interesting articles I run across of this nature... though my LJ would never be primarily about that. I have another LJ that I use for articles, but political and governmental stuff is mixed in with Christian stuff so I'm not sure most folks would find it interesting or useful. It's more for my reference than anything. Anyway!

While I agree that suspending the gas tax during the busiest travel season is not going to make a big difference I don't agree with the "tax-to-discourage" approach. I also think that the idea that if we stop buying oil that we will also stop supporting people that "hate us the most" because they already control more of our economy than just petroleum.

The Saudis are smart and don't put their investments in one bag. They also own majority shares for many of the Fortune 500 companies so if people think that by not supporting oil you wouldn't be lining their pockets with their money then they're mistaken.

Also what makes people think that the proceeds those taxes are actually going towards alternative energy research?
