Man, for me this election is all about YouTube and other video sites. I haven't been able to watch much of anything on TV, and I heard only the first part of the Obama/McCain debate on a car radio, but I'm loving all these clips I get on the political communities and on email. I've even started a little collection for myself on a private post.

I especially love what CBS is doing, essentially creating a VP debate by asking Biden and Palin the same questions and then displaying the answers one after the other. Pure gold. My favorite so far, even better than the supreme court one, is the Cheney one.

And I know that many many people are posting insightful critique and cogent thoughts about the election. I am not in a position to be able to put that kind of thing together right now. I also agree that too much focus on/criticism of Palin isn't going to help anything. But I just have to say this one thing. Every time I watch her speak, all I can think is "beauty pageant contestant." It's just the way she talks, the way she takes a breath and then just... goes for it, with a big ol' smile, saying nothing of substance but hitting the key words like marks on a stage.

I AGREE!! She didn't do horribly by any stretch of the word last night but it was so... forced? Like you said, her huge smile and white teeth and all the "correct" words, without really saying anything of substance. Almost like they believe if she tosses out words like "gosh darnit" and "Joe Sixpack" and "soccer moms" that the entire nation will collectively sigh, "Awww, how sweet!" and she'll win the election for McCain? It's insulting!

It's true. When you think about it, this approach as worked out well for her. :/

I agree with this assessment! A friend had another interesting observation, which was that Palin seeemed to appeal more to men, which kinda goes along with my theory as well (that she was picked to appeal to Conservatives and men who think she is hot).

It's a little bizarre how badly she did in the interviews now, considering she pulled this off OK (although I kinda knew she would). Um... I'm thinking it is so the Conservatives can cry about "the liberal media?" (Yes, I really see there is a reason for everything they do.)

As a TV-less peep, I like it when youtube clips get shared :D

Insulting but possibly true; that's the really depressing part.

Yeah, I read a really caustic article today that talked about her flirting her way into DC. It's craziness.

I still have to watch the whole debate... I want to see this winking I've been hearing about.

Are you getting enough clips? I haven't put all of mine into that one post yet; I emailed a bunch to myself. I kindof want to send them to everyone I know because I'm afraid people aren't seeing this stuff. But I know I can't just inundate people with crap... dammit.
