Jameth's opinion on Prop 8. I actually think he is right, and I was saying something very similar to Aubrey earlier today. :D
California Proposition 8
I called it long ago and said it would pass. It is unfortunate and I hate being right. Anyway, I digress.
The question of same-sex marriage will return, again, to the CA Supremes, who will then overturn Proposition 8 just like they overturned Proposition 22. Please read the ~200 page majority decision from the Supreme Court of California from May 2008. I have read every word. It is remarkably eloquent and is a true example of how an independent judiciary is the proper and final venue for protecting minority rights.
Show up at your protests and rallies and demonstrations during the coming months and years (yes, years; this will probably take another 2-4 years for the CA Supremes to decide again). Sure, the demonstrations country- and world-wide may not make a difference, but if mainstream media picks it up (and accurately tallies the crowd count, which is another tangent entirely), it may have a minuscule difference in public opinion.
The sway of public opinion also requires help from everyone. Talk to your neighbors, co-workers, friends, parishioners, elected leaders, you name it. Start the discussion. Unfortunately, this should have happened months ago, if not years.
A final note: this is not a federal question. I really wish people would stop throwing around the idea that the US Supreme Court will become involved. Shut up. You can thank the mid-90s and Bill Clinton for that one. Wait another 40 years before it reaches the federal level.
