The irony of being far in America is that the bigger you are, the less visible you become.  So great is the cultural premium on a kind of carefully maintain and beddable attractiveness that those without it are obliquely disdained--frequently looked over, around and through by would-be lovers, employers and friends.  Although the effects of a vice like overeating are uniquely obvious, nothing sidelines you, disappears you, more swiftly.
