I'm so, so, so, so sad about the security guard who was killed at the Holocaust Museum.
It's strange to say I love a place like that, a place so full of intense sadness, but I do. It's a solemn and important place to visit. I've visited twice, spent about four hours each time, and left with a crippling headache. It's REAL. It brings the stories of the holocaust to life like nothing else I've ever seen. And, as most of these public places in DC, entering the lobby is a very offical and serious experience in itself; I always feel like the security guards are part of the secret service, like I'd better not make any sudden moves. I am so thankful to the security guards who immediately and unhesitatingly contained the sorry excuse for a human who decided to shoot up the place today. And I'm so sorry that one of those guys had to die. There have been a lot of tragedies lately, but this one is particularly meaningful to me.
