No way!

Jehovah's Witnesses just came to my door for the first time EVER! I'm so excited.

Ever? They come to our house at _least_ once a month. I think they think Matt is interested. He's a little _too_ polite.

I don't think they are too active in San Francisco. Or maybe I've just been in the right (wrong?) neighborhoods since I've been here.

Why are you so excited?

We had them once at our old house here and 3 or 4 times here. I couldn't understand why they came back more than once here - Geof told them he was a pastor and where... and we were very nice to them every time. But it was like they just didn't get it. And it wasn't like they tried to find out if we were happy or anything - it was more like having these two senior citizen robots come and run the same program each time.

Now the Mormons that came to visit - they were sweet. Two young guys that came on one of the coldest days of the year here.

David loves it when that happens. He door stops them.

Best one was when he was tired, and just didn't have the energy to tie them in knots, so he said "Look, I'm a pagan, okay?"

And the young lass said "At least we have the Bible in common." and smiled as she pressed a pamphlet into his hand...

Did you invite them in for tea and share the good news of paganism with them?

And... so how'd it go...?

I don't know what people dislike about them showing up. I find it amusing. Especially since they literally throw their pamphlets at me and run...I guess they figure there's no hope for someone who "looks" like I do. Ha, ha. It always shocks the hell outta people when they find out I'm ordained!

I don't know, I guess just because I hear about other people having this experience but I never got to have it. I'm weird like that.

We haven't had Mormons either, that I recall. I think a lot of churches write the whole of San Francisco off as godless heathens. LOL.

If she had taken the time to ask me any questions I would have happily told her about my religion. I just said "no thanks" and she smiled and said "thank you" and turned around.

LOL, no, but I don't know much about paganism. I just smiled and said no thanks, and she smiled and said thank you and turned around. Rather uneventful.

Uneventful. I just smiled and said no thanks and she smiled and said thank you and turned around. I guess I could have invited conversation but I wasn't *that* excited. :)

Wow! This girl seemed poised and ready for rejection. She was very polite. I know enough about her religion that I could have probably had an interesting talk with her if I had wanted to stop and spend the time. Maybe next time I'll try that... 16 years of Bible classes (from grade school to college graduation) left me with some ammo. :)

I had the mormons visit me in San Francisco. They got really excited when I told them I grew up with a lot of mormons and they were quite familiar with Spokane..I wished them luck in the big crazy city and to be careful. :-)

Haha it happens to me way too much. One time I answered the door half naked in a towel and it was the neighbor boy jehovas witness his voice cracked and he left never to return.

i *so* get this!

they come here sometimes. i'm always semi polite as i'm closing the door on them (or talking through the buzzer, if i figured it out in time to not buzz them in), but also kind of appalled at the whole thing. not *just* because it's religious recruitment (which does bother me) but i just feel so... like, how dare you ring people's buzzers? i'm in my house, leave me alone!

this is a really stupid question, but i'm just curious... every JW i've ever come across has been black. are most witnesses black or is that just in nyc?

The girl that came to my door was white, as is the lady who sits outside Walgreens handing out Watchtowers. And the family of JWs down the street from me in my childhood was white. But the lady who used to hand out Watchtowers at my old hospital was black.

Anecdotal evidence, that's all I've got.
