I just dug up this old post to share some of my GD history with someone, and realized it's been a year and a half since I wrote it--and that I've gained some new Dead-friendly LJ friends in the interim. So if you've never seen pictures of my beloved 1966 VW microbus, go read this post!

What wonderful pictures and stories and a sad ending. I never had a bus, but many friends did and my sister bean girl. Hers was (Loose) Lucy 1970. She would fix Lucy herself.

I have a 1986 vanagon, but it's not the same. I remember when driving Lucy that every VW bus one passed, the drivers would give each other the wave. It was code. We went to a lot of shows in Lucy. Toward the end of it all, when Mermaid Girl was born, they would sleep in tents and let me sleep in Lucy with MG. Lucy wasn't painted in the cool way your bus was, but we still loved her. (~):-)

Yes! I loved the waves and peace signs from other bus owners! And I'm glad you had your own awesome bus experiences. There's just something about them.

I had a Vanagon after my bus got stolen. I loved the Vanagon--a 1987 full camper package, light blue, what a fun car that was! But it wasn't the same. I would drive around thinking "hippie-yuppie, hippie-yuppie." Plus it broke a lot and cost me WAY more to fix than the old bus. But I did love it, and when the transmission blew up for the second time and I basically sold it for parts I was sad.

Of course I love my Prius but I still fantasize about having a little microbus on the side someday.

I probably saw you at shows or the Haight, never knowing I'd meet you someday this way. We used to be those people you'd find outside taking pictures. I should try and dig up some of those.

I used to like that not everyone liked the GD or was a hippie, because it meant a better change for me to get tickets to shows. (~):-)

:D Boy am I glad I dug this one up! I didn't realize how many cool people I'd added in the interim who would appreciate it!
