Hellfudge seems to be doing fine so far. I don't see her trying to pee randomly so maybe her infection was in the kidneys or bladder and is clearing up. This is day 3 of her antibiotics. We haven't given her the fluid infusion yet but we will do that today, and every day for the time being. It's hot again today--supposed to get to about 90 and it's already almost 80 in the house--so we should definitely do the fluids before too long. I'm waiting for Evan to come back so we can help each other. She'll have a checkup maybe Tuesday or Wednesday of next week to see if the fluids are helping and redo the labs.

Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes and your understanding! I really really appreciate it!

Here's hoping the infection has cleared up.

We were supposed to break heat records here today, but I don't think it's happened. It's warm and a bit muggy, but I'm not losing my mind from the heat.

18 year old kitty. http://twirlgrrl.livejournal.com/127412.html

:-)

I know you're a dog person... I would love to have a dog but San Francisco isn't the best place for them. We don't have a lot of space and we travel a lot. I'm thinking maybe when Blue is 6 or 7 we'll get one. I can't imagine going through a whole childhood without a dog!

i'm a dog person, mainly because with the dogs i have, i could not have cats at this time. :) :(
but i've had some strong bonds with cats in the past. when i was a senior in college, a cat adopted me, and brought dead birds to eat in front of my door, etc. one night she even followed me and my friends to a bar several blocks away. i hadn't known her that long at that point, but somehow i knew that she'd wait for us outside in the shadows and then follow us home at the end of the night. and she did. i put up posters about her to try to find her home, but then ended up taking her when i left school. and then i left her with my parents when i left for grad school. she was a DSH tortoiseshell. she later died of cancer. some of the cats who've been strays who've adopted me (she wasn't the only one, as my parents will attest*) haven't lived that long. i hope my two adopted stray dogs live long.

* from the late 80s through the late 90s i was moving around a lot and would often be living where no pets would be allowed. finally, i was like, i really want a dog, and i need to order my life so i can have one!

i ended up in flickr looking at some photos. "Day 10--Proud Mama" is a really nice photo.

Yeah, I didn't mean you were a dog person to the exclusion of cats, though some people do go that route. I guess you are an animal person! Me too! :)

Thanks for looking at my flickr. There are a jillion pics on there. I love that picture too.

There have been several controversies about dog parks and leash laws here. I believe there is a vocal contingent arguing against leash requirements in parks, though the debate seems to have died down over the past few years. This town is really so tiny, 7 x 7 miles, but we do have a lot of parks, and a lot of dogs! I don't see dog-specific parks much though.

Ha ha, that was really funny. John Jennifer was my babydoll that my mom gave me when my little brother was born. S/he was my constant companion for a few years and now my mom has him/her in Idaho; s/he plays the Baby Jesus at Christmas in church. I went up to visit her with Blue and those pictures document my introduction of John Jennifer to Blue. I remember cracking up so hard when Blue decided, after some wariness, that the best way to deal with John Jennifer was to eat him/her.

that's hilarious! and i love that sort of thing in general. some friends of mine had a shih tzu that had claimed one of their child's old toys-- it was a stuffed dog that looked just like him and was virtually the same size he was. it cracked me up to see him run around dragging that toy-- it was pretty lightweight, so it was easy for him.

john jennifer-- that cries out for a song, along the lines of david bowie's "jean genet" -- or is it "jean jeanie"?

Thanks. I haven't been very successful at getting fluids in Hellfudge. She is a fighter! But she seems to be feeling a lot better. I don't know what's next.
