An interesting tidbit about gmail that I gleaned from a community--not sure if it works or not, but I'm saving it here for future reference:

**************
Say your gmail address is janet@gmail.com and you sign up for something at abc.com. You can sign up as janet+abc@gmail.com. Gmail doesn't recognize the + or anything after it or before the @. This means if they ever sell that e-mail address or spam it, you would see that the mail was sent to you as janet+abc@gmail.com and know that it was that particular site that spammed/sold your e-mail address. Also gmail doesn't recognize .s, so j.a.net@gmail.com is the same as j.....an.et@gmail.com... etc. This is helpful if you wanted to use your last name in your email and see more clearly (eg, janetsmith vs. janet.smith).

That's good to know... someone must have sold my email lately because in the past couple weeks I started getting viagra ads out the ass!

I'm so impressed with Google.
OMG - on Friday I had lunch on the Google campus with some friends who left the company I work for to go work there. The "cafeteria" we went to had bacon wrapped Ahi, spring risotto, and a roasted vegetable dish. This is free food available to employees and their guests every day. Amazingly yummy.

That is so cool. I totally want to check out the campus.

One caveat is that a lot of places that have a mail authentication scheme in place had lazy programmers, and they didn't bother adding the three characters of code which would allow plus signs to be seen as "valid" in an e-mail address, so if you try yourname+company@gmail.com in their form, you'll get an "invalid" error. I've run into this more times than I can think of. It's highly frustrating.

Thanks. Just reading it I was pretty sure it wouldn't work all the time.

But it's always a small thrill when it does!
