The "Controversial" Survey

[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
Guts? Bwa ha ha.

[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?
No. I am so done with even considering any sort of white powdered drug for a second. DONE, I tell you!

[03] Abortion: for or against it?
Stupid question. Do you really know anyone who is "for" abortion? I think that anyone facing such a distressing situation deserves support and the privacy to make the decision for herself in accordance with her own spiritual path.

[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
Another stupid question. It doesn't even specify president of what! I hate to even attempt an answer. *sigh* I believe that women leaders are at least as capable as men.

[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
No, for two reasons: (1) My personal beliefs prohibit human-killing of any kind. (2) I don't believe that the legal system is equitable.

[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Yes. I am pro-legalization, taxation and regulatory control for all drugs. I don't believe that the fact that they are illegal stops anyone from doing drugs. The "Drug War" breaks up families and ruins lives for non-violent, victimless crimes. Every day.

[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
Hm. This is going to crack some of you up, but I can actually get behind the idea of one-partner-for-life as the ideal. I don't really know how to explain how that fits with my comfort level with the reality of my life. :)

[08] Do you believe in God?
Yes.

[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Yes. I also think that clergy should not perform legal marriages. I think that marriage as a legal entity should be the province of the same government that legislates taxes, health care, custody, alimony, etc. Marriage as a religious institution should be performed by clergy as desired by the marrying couple, but the legal contract should still be administered and enforced by a secular agent.

[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
I think the whole thing is unfortunate, and I don't have a good answer for how it should be handled. I understand that the government needs to control immigration as long as the USA exists in its current form. I also have tremendous sympathy for immigrants.

[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
That's not for me to decide. Hopefully she has a support system that enables her to make the choice that's best for all concerned.

[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
I don't even know what having an "alcohol age" accomplishes. I know that restricting alcohol sales to certain age groups does not appear to affect the number of youngsters getting drunk.

[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
Of course. But we've made such a mess now, I couldn't possibly presume to guess at how that would best be accomplished.

[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
No. I think it's silly that we're so schizophrenic about it in the US. If you think that sick people are not being helped to die in hospitals, you are sadly misinformed.

[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
No.

[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
I don't know--what's the legal penalty?

[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?
Obama.

[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
I guess so, I don't know. I hope that people who disagree with me will start a dialogue rather than unfriending me in disgust.

Wow, your answers could be my answers with the exception of #7. I think people who get married without living together for a couple years are asking for trouble. I can get behind one-partner-for-life as an ideal, I just think the process of finding that right partner may take some pretty serious looking around.

Does "looking around" necessarily include sex, though?

Well, since I think they ought to live together for a couple of years prior to marriage, yeah, sex is likely to be involved. I don't think many couples could live together as platonic friends, even if that would fully satisfy my goals of truly experiencing ALL that relationship entails.
