I actually posted these links, and the fact-check, to Blue's journal too. I almost never put anything "political" on there, but I wanted the video especially to be viewed by its intended audience--my family.

I am aware that there are things said on the video that will bug some of you. Please realize that the Adventists Against Prop 8 campaign originates from a religion with an extremely conservative majority. Most Adventists believe what you would expect conservative Christian people to believe about homosexuality. But they also have a long history and strong identity of fighting for the separation of church and state, religious liberty, and the rights of those who hold minority views or beliefs. From that perspective I think the video is effective and I hope that the Adventists I know see it. Oh, that reminds me, I need to go put it up on facebook too.

Please donate to the No on Prop 8 campaign, if you haven't already--no matter where you live.

I think that if Churches want standing on legislative matters that they should pay taxes. Furthermore there are two types of marriage, marriage as seen by the church and marriage as seen by the state. Aside from that, not everyone who gets married is Christian so why should Christians be the ones who get to define marriage. There are many walks of faith in the USA.

Yes, exactly. I never thought much about ministers acting as agents of the state until this gay marriage debate came up a few years ago. I don't know why it didn't occur to me before, but it makes no sense! The legal and financial construct that is marriage should be administered by government employees. If people want to stage a ceremony commemorating this event, they can do that in any manner they choose, and the minister will still get paid. The whole way we do it is totally wrong. Why isn't there a measure on the ballot to take churches out of the equation, instead?
