I wonder if "lowest common denominator" is a nasty way of saying "normal?" I've often argued that I don't even *have* an accent--at least not a regional one. I think I pretty much speak newscaster English. Although I can lapse into valleyspeak or hippify as the occasion demands, among other affectations of the linguistic variety. I'm very susceptible and tend to mirror the people around me.
