I wonder if "lowest common denominator" is a nasty way of saying "normal?" I've often argued that I don't even *have* an accent--at least not a regional one. I think I pretty much speak newscaster English. Although I can lapse into valleyspeak or hippify as the occasion demands, among other affectations of the linguistic variety. I'm very susceptible and tend to mirror the people around me.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

I'm 'Inland North' : You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

That's funny because it's true. The first time I realized I had an accent was when a friend from Seattle laughed at the way I say my short 'a's. And here I thought I was a true Westie already. Guess you can take the girl out of Michigan, but you can't take Michigan out of the girl. And I owe you a phone call!
