Stinky still won't eat. He just wants to lie under the bushes in the corner of the backyard, exactly where Hellfudge wanted to be when she was dying. His labs showed liver dysfunction and an elevated white count; the vet is pretty sure he has cancer and maybe an infection too. We got some medicine that might have made him feel better but he really really doesn't want to take it; I was hoping even the first dose of prednisolone might make a difference but it hasn't at all. So he's going to kitty heaven in a couple of hours.

He's gone from being an obnoxious kitten to a sweet, lovable old boy and I will miss him. Thanks for all your kind words.

*hug*

I'm so sorry for your loss, Lisa. It seems unfair to lose both the cats so close together...

I was just going to recommend that you go ahead and take Stinky in, and I'm glad you are. You know I had an experience with this recently and how my kitty ended up seizing. I wished I had taken her sooner so she wouldn't have had to experience that. It was heartbreaking.

Stinky knows you love him and are doing the kind thing. You're a good kitty mama, Lisa.

Yeah, that's the thing, it's so hard to make the decision because I always want to time it just right, to spend as much time as possible with the kitty but not wait to see how it all ends in case it's traumatic or painful. It was the same with Hellfudge, and the vet told us about the possibility of seizures which was what made us take her in right then. I'm just glad we weren't too late to help Stinky on a Friday afternoon. It's all over now and I'm relieved, though I keep thinking I see him out of the corner of my eye.

I remember how hard it was to take Poe in to be put to sleep. How is Blue handling it?

He seems OK. He was pretty clear on what happened to Hellfudge so today he was like "I think Stinky's going to die soon." And then he said goodbye to him when he left. We'll see what he comes up with later.

"I keep thinking I see him out of the corner of my eye"

I know how that is. It's weird, isn't it? Gage still says, "Hi, Tragedy!" on occasion while he's playing around the house, and I sometimes see her peripherally. Probably my mind playing tricks, but you never know.

Oh, I'm so sorry!! Cats are such a wonderful part of the family, aren't they? Will you hold a little cat memorial service for him?

They are. I'm not sure if we will or not. We aren't the most ceremonial of people. ;)

Yeah, us too (neither?). Our idea of a "ceremony" was just kind of having the whole family there when we buried our dogs. :( I still have Poe's ashes in my closet, though - was never sure where to bury her... that's kind of weird, huh? :-P

I don't think it's weird... I was going to tell you something weirder that I have in my house right now but I think it's TMI.

Well there's never such a thing as TMI as far as I'm concerned ;)

Poor Stinky.

I'm glad to hear you took him in before he had the chance for his condition to degrade even more.

Was Hellfudge and Stinky your only cats?

Oh stinky, I hope he doesn't suffer and peacefully goes on his journey. Kitties are such special friends to have--and tough to lose.

Sending love to both of you.

Love, love, love~~~~~~~
"Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life."
