I'm taken aback by how many people in booj are apparently so repressed that they can't imagine singing, whistling, or bouncing around along with a song on the PA in a public place.

I'm using this icon for a reason.

P.S. I know, it's rude to call people repressed, and I apologize in advance for anyone I'm offending.

I didn't read all the comments but it seemed like everyone was like I WILL DANCE IF I WANT TO.

It's my goal in life to embarrass my kids. As far as I'm concerned, that means I'm doing it right.

LOL. I was thinking, at the moment that I become too embarrassing for my kids, it's time for boarding school. But that's because I went to boarding school at 14, and I've always been glad that I went just at the time of maximum bitchiness to my mom. I think a lot of teenage-girl ugliness was avoided by throwing me into a pit with my peers just then.

There were others that said "I can't imagine dancing in public" for sure.

So, you will dance if you want to?
Will you leave your friends behind?
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
then they're no friends of mine!

Haha, I don't understand that rule, but my mom had it too, and we made a joke out of it as kids by having a little song that went "NO singing at the table!"

It's probably one of those things that was drilled into your head when you were too young to remember.

We have the same rule, and it's because a) the more the kids sing the rowdier and more silly and noisy they get, and b) it holds the rest of the table hostage. No one else can talk (or at least not without shouting) if one person is singing. It's rude.

Sad isn't it? The lack of joy people have.

It is a normal occurance for us to sing, dance, be-bop around when we hear good songs in stores and such. It's such fun. Those are the moments that give a little zest to life. I think it helps people who pass by you to feel a little bit of lightheartedness too.

One of the reasons I love it here in SF is that people in general are a little less repressed than is the norm. The other day I was in the supermarket singing along with a song on the PA and I passed at least one person in each aisle who was also singing. :D

Marin, is not quite so much a "let your freak flag fly" place as SF, but I still grew up singing in public. (My mom had a rule about not dancing... hence, now I also dance in public on occasion :D)

But even in repressed AL, I still "catch" other people singing along to songs on the PA at certain places :D

I about as repressed as they come...

and I sing and dance in the store aisles all the time! The dancing is usually just with the kids, but I have no problem singing along in the store. And if I really like the song and others are singing, too, I'll belt it out!

Aww, I'm sitting in SFO right now. I wish I could go see the bridge again.
