I chopped off the back, and we'll see if we can't get it into a sortof shaggy surfer do. I'm not ready for the prototypical super short little-boy cut. If I can't get it into decent shape I'll try to find a place to get it fixed tomorrow.
I totally cried. It's going to be cute, but I'm going to miss his baby hair! I put it all in a baggie. *snif*
What he told me (and later retracted) sounded like someone decided to find something to tease him about--if it wasn't the hair I think it would have been something else. I'm not even sure how big a factor that was.
It's going to be cute. I'm just kindof in shock. I don't think anything prompted it, other than having scissors in his hand while I was in the shower. I thought he was past the age where this would be an issue.
Ha ha, I like to think I'd have taken him in for a cut eventually--I already had a style saved in my bookmarks--but I don't know how adamant he'd have to be before I would have actually scheduled an appointment.
Oh and I told him that we'd have to take him to get a real haircut and he started crying because he's SCARED and they use SCISSORS! I was like dude, it doesn't hurt, you just cut your own hair with scissors and then you let me do it.
Ha ha, yes, he has alternately declared that he wanted it short and that he wanted to grow it to his ankles. If he had been consistent over a few days I probably would have taken him seriously. I think this was almost entirely impulse, but he's happy and it's going to be cute. I guess I'm glad the "when" is over with.
i really think in a way it's awesome that he did it himself. there's something so empowered about it, him cutting his own cord, so to speak. i know it was also impulsive, and i'm sure it must have been traumatic for you! but i don't know. it seems kind of poetic.
btw when i saw the email i exclaimed aloud, and then announced to the room (which included my in-laws) what blue had done. within a millisecond caleb responded "i want to do that!" nonononononono! caleb doesn't have as much to spare :)
I was in shock at first, then I started snapping pictures to capture the moment while he still held his hair in his hand, and then I cried. Which of course made him cry, and then he was like, "It's not SUCH a big deal, Mom!"
I knew it would be fine, and I was half amused and half shocked, but I still cried because it was his baby hair.

Date: 2010-10-11 04:08 am (UTC)it is amazing that you got to keep that baby hair on him for so long. you now have quite a good handful to save!!!
