I bought Blue a pair of Crocs. His Tevas are getting too small and it's so convenient to have a pair of waterproof slip-ons for him.

The thing is, I really really like them, and I'm thinking I want to get myself a pair. They're SO light and comfy-looking, and I've always been a fan of the Mickey Mouse shape--I have some other shoes with that general profile that are hot and sweaty and heavy, which I know the Crocs would not be. They're cheap, and they're ventilated, and yeah. But I know that they're also a fad whose time has passed, they've moved on into the land of antifashion, and there are even websites devoted to how much people hate them. And as silly as this is, as long as I've lived a fashion-free hippie mom existence, as long as I've been a fat woman and therefore invisible anyway, as diverse and unconcerned with appearance as most of this town is, there is still a tiny part of me that is convinced that I'm supposed to care about how dorky Crocs are. Probably the part of me that was raised on the cusp of Southern California.

What to do?

I think they're ugly... but I refuse to try them on for the sheer fact that everyone says they're so comfy and I'm afraid I'd love them.

Our preK won't allow the kids to wear crocs because they find that they don't stay on while playing on the playground and they sometimes are slippery. Just FYI. Personally I love my faux crocs I got at payless.

God I hate them! but if you have a good reason to use them, don't let popular opinion keep you from something that can only improve your life.

They're fuck ugly, but I wear them three times a week! Super light, but a bit flat, so when I slip a couple Dr. Scholl's inserts in I NEVER have sore feet at the end of 13 hours. They are comfy. Poop on what's trendy, if you think you'll like the comfort then buy 'em. :)

Crocs. I had them before they became popular for their sheer functionality. I was still teaching kayaking and in the summer they were perfect for working down on the dock and cleaning boats.

When I was pregnant, and the preeclampsia had caused my feet to swell to epic proportions, the Crocs were the only shoes I could wear.

They're great for around the house and washing the car. They're beyond dorky but who the fuck cares. You want them? Get them!

Ha ha! That's what did me in--when I got Blue's and saw how light and comfy they are. He *LOVES* them; he won't take them off.

Interesting! Yeah, the day after they arrived, Blue wanted to wear them to daycare and wouldn't take no for an answer. They're still a little long for him and I wasn't sure they would even stay on, so I brought an extra pair of sneakers to daycare, but at the end of the day he still had them on with no problems. Now he will not take them off, ever--he even wants to sleep in them.

Thank you! And honestly, I don't know that they're much dorkier than any of the other shoes I normally wear. Hm.

I bought a bunch of shoes when I was pregnant because my feet grew and swelled. They are still bigger than they were before, so I guess I've permanently moved up a size. Oh well.

Lisa - Nestle guy has deleted just about all the comments on it being a Nestle video, and the ones advising mothers where to go. But he's engaged with two of your posts to make it look like you are 'talking' to him about improvements. And he's banned anyone he's deleted, from reposting...

I don't think they're that ugly, although I wouldn't wear them to work. Get some. :-)

I know, I saw that he'd deleted the others, but not until after I'd replied to his. Guess it doesn't hurt to look friendly while still getting good info across. Wonder if I could mention Nestle now without getting deleted?

I think they're monitoring, comments are being deleted as fast as they go on. I hit spam as a flag.

They're also stupid, they left the "Gee nice to see you being concerned about parents" one on his main page, as they didn't notice it then slid into an attack about formula companies.

From: [identity profile] the-changeling.livejournal.com
Did you really say "thank you too!" to him like that? I'm assuming he edited...?

Date: 2007-11-12 12:18 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] twirlgrrl.livejournal.com
Yeah, I really said that, as in "Thank you for agreeing with my comment and leaving it up." Although I didn't know he'd deleted the others' comments at that time.

I am usually the moderate in such a situation, and I truly am glad that he left my comments up and appeared to agree with at least one of them.

Date: 2007-11-12 12:49 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] the-changeling.livejournal.com
Oh if you were doing it in the stream of thinking the other comemtns were up, I can see that fits in.

Of course, now the other comments are gone, and a lot of them were reasonable too, it's set up to read as if he's listening to people.

What totally confuses me, if he also deleted some of the original positive comments. Wonder if he just kept hitting delete...

Ha! I've just seen your other add on comment! That was brilliant! He hasn't a clue, but everyone else will get it!

You're a genius!

Well, thanks. I hope the point does come across. I also hope that the latch video I put a link to gets viewed by people who watch the video... I couldn't get that stupid comment to post for the life of me, and finally figured out that www...com links are prohibited, so I had to chop the link to pieces to get it in.

Weird that he left one of dlworth's comments up and deleted the others--there was at least one more, maybe two.

Yeah, I wonder too. Very strange, but also likely he went in a bit of a panic because all those comments hit him on the same day.

i thought crocs were trendy, that their ugliness was like so ugly that it was cool? i don't know, i am clueless about what the hell is going on except that all the kids here have them and some of the adults too.

banjo's don't fall off when he wears the strap on the back, except for if he's getting out of his stroller, being pulled out of a high chair, etc. if he decides he needs the strap in the front then they will fall off easily.

btw i tried them on and was disappointed. also i think i am between sizes...

I think they used to be trendy and now they're "out." I don't know, I have limited sources for this type of information anymore. I think they are SO cute on kids, holy crap! Blue looks adorable in his.

I broke down and ordered some, but it was from Zappos so if they don't fit I can send them back for free. Zappos ROCKS.

What happened to your post on the topic in breastfeeding?

Date: 2007-11-12 11:20 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] twirlgrrl.livejournal.com
Hi!

Morgan posted about a breastfeeding video on YouTube:

http://morgangallagher.livejournal.com/137225.html

I went and commented on it after watching it, as did some other folks from morgan's journal and/or the breastfeeding community.

Dude who posted it deleted almost every comment, but left mine up. Here, Morgan is asking about our back & forth on YouTube comments.

Wonder if my comments are still there? *goes off to check*

Someone emailed details to The Lactavist and Mother Knows Breast.

I've emailed both Baby Milk Action and NABA, but unless YouTube listens... I don't think there is a thing anyone can do. And all you can do at YouTube is flag it, but not say exactly why.

From: [identity profile] twirlgrrl.livejournal.com
No, I mean, your update post in breastfeeding that told people that comments were being deleted, etc. It seems to be missing. Did you delete it or did the mods?

Date: 2007-11-12 12:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] the-changeling.livejournal.com
That's bizarre - it's been there all morning, and now it's gone, but I haven't had an email through from the mods saying it's been deleted, and they always do that?

Totally confused.

Date: 2007-11-12 03:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] the-changeling.livejournal.com
Even more curiously, I emailed the mods and asked why I wasn't given an email saying it had been deleted, and also saying I was confused as to why it _would_ be deleted... and answer came there none! They're usually very fast, as there is usually one on duty all the time... oh well, apart from letting people know their comemnts had been deleted, it had sort of run it's course anyway.

In other news... Marsha Walker at NABA said take it to Baby Milk Action, as they handle the Nestle boycott worldwide, and I had already done so. I don't think emailing YouTUbe is useful, until Baby Milk Action decide if and what they should do.

We need to encourage proper support videos being uploaded, but I've never managed that... might go see if I can...

TahoeBean deleted it as it was against the ethos of the community.

I'm not quite sure how that fits... but apparently no posts 'rallying' on lactavist issues are allowed... so an awful lot of the community is going to be deleted, one assumes.

Not to mention the original post is still there, and this was just a follow up.

I emailed all the mods and asked how warning mothers of bad breastfeeding advice, is against the ethos of the community...

I also worked out how to actually complain to YouTube, and did so.

Oh wait... reply... oh yes, I tried to rally internet support to go over and start a dram on another forum, and we're not here to be arseholes.

Except, of course, I didn't. I didn't ask anyone to do anything... I just said some might like to see if they get more comments through, as I was, apparently, blocked.

When I asked if this meant no more links to other orgs (putting the link is to the video was also another no no) would be allowed on behalf of nurse ins etc, I was told I was being ridiculous.

Dont' ask me, I'm as confused as anyone else.

When you put in breastfeeding latch, you get 3 hits - Nestle is No 2.

I'll email Jack Newman.

He has given permission! :-)

So, do we want to make a new name at YouTube, Something like "Breastfeeding" or "Mother'sMilk", or we could post it under morgangee, and I'd give you my password to get the videos up, but then I could do the word work... I'm presuming you won't want it under twirlgrrl.

I've also emailed the lactation specialist who put together the wonderful Ameda latch video... and I'll spend the next couple of days rooting out other good videos and getting consent where appropriate.

Great! Let me figure out how to get the videos onto my HD so I can post them, first... and I don't mind posting them under mine or yours, doesn't matter to me. It'll take me until the weekend to prepare them though, I'm sure.
