Potato bugs.
Not the roly-poly kind or the little green kind. I'm talking about the kind also known as the "jerusalem cricket." The nasty, disgusting, huge, gigantic, mooshy, shiny, black and brown ones. They can get seriously huge, like 4 inches long, and they are the most disgusting bugs I can think of. If I never see one again it will be too soon.
I haven't seen one in years, actually. But I'm about to start trying to fix up my backyard, and if I see one I might scream.
ETA: I'm talking about these. Imagine accidentally touching a 3-inch-long one while working in your garden. EWWWWWWW!
