House meme, seen on the LJs of several friends:

When you walk in your front door, which room do you enter?
Narrow entryway, garage door to the right, then stairs to the main level and a passage to the offices/backyard in back.

Do you have a dishwasher?
Yes, hooray! I used to hate them and avoid using them as a single person, but with a family I find it essential.

Is your living room carpeted or does it have hardwood floors?
Hardwood floors FTW.

Do you keep your kitchen knives on the counter or in a drawer?
In a knife block on top of the toaster oven.

House, apartment, duplex or trailer?
House.

How many bedrooms is it?
It was advertised as a 3-bedroom with den. We use it as a 2-bedroom with 2 offices.

Gas stove or electric?
Gas, hooray. I hate electric stoves.

Do you have a yard?
Yes, and it's a mess, but it's lovely because it overlooks the ocean. I just hired a gardener to start fixing it up.

What size TV is in the living room?
Um, I think it's 27 inches.

Are your plates in the same cupboard as your cups?
No.

Is there a coffee maker sitting on your kitchen counter?
Yes, that crazy Nespresso pod thing--Evan's dad gave it to him for his birthday.

What room is your computer in?
Two offices, several computers, plus a laptop that's usually in the living room now that the wireless is working again.

Are there pictures hanging in your living room?
Sadly, we haven't gotten around to hanging any. There is a picture of 3 of my great-aunts propped above the fireplace, but not hung; also there are a couple Jerry pics on the mantel.

Are there any themes found in your home?
We suck at decorating. No themes to speak of, though there are several frogs in Blue's room.

What kind of laundry detergent do you use?
Seventh Generation.

Do you use dryer sheets?
No. My mom never used them because they render towels un-absorbent, and I don't like adding smells to my laundry.

Do you have any curtains in your home?
Blinds, and one light-blocking shade in our bedroom.

What color is your fridge?
Metal (silver)

Is your house clean?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no.

What room is the most neglected?
The garage. It's so full of junk, it's almost impassable.

Are the dishes in your sink/dishwasher clean or dirty?
Dirty.

How long have you lived in your home?
3 years this month.

Where did you live before?
The inner Richmond district, on California between 2nd and 3rd Ave.

Do you have one of those fluffy toilet lid covers on your toilet?
No. They seem like bacteria farms to me.

Do you have a scale anywhere in your house?
I think Evan has one in his bathroom.

How many mirrors are in your house?
Two--medicine cabinets in both bathrooms.

Look up. What do you see?
A veritable wall of books and office supplies.

Do you have a garage?
Yes, but it's full of stuff. We park one car in the driveway and one on the street.

Ha ha, it's not. It feels really tiny because we have so much stuff! It's 1549 square feet per the landlord, so it's the biggest place I've lived in for quite a while. And yeah, it's nice that it's an actual house. But I don't think it's very big compared to the homes of most of my friends, especially those who don't live in SF or NY.

Well, yeah, but we have (embarrassingly) like 10x the amount of stuff you do. It's ridiculous and crazy. We're both terrible packrats.

Come visit, you'll see!

when we first moved in together, into a 1 bedroom, we both got rid of a lot of stuff first but there was still WAY too much furniture and stuff in that apartment. we had to get rid of a ton of stuff again even though we were moving to a bigger apt.... and then once banjo was born we moved more furniture down to the storage area! oy.

Evan is hopeless with the whole getting-rid-of-stuff thing. At least he was until he started taking speed; now all bets are off, LOL. I am OK with getting rid of *some* stuff when I have the time (not memorabilia, I have a shitton of memorabilia) but I promptly buy more stuff to fill up the space. It's so annoying. I'm trying to break the stuff habit.
