OK, so about that food meme I just did... Some of you are doing it and I'm realizing that this is a great opportunity to collect the names of some great restaurants all over the country.

Please comment with some of your favorite restaurants (one, a few, or a lot) and the location (city/state/whatever) of the restaurant. You can recommend specific dishes too, if you want. I'll put them all in my travel notes. Then I'll know where to eat wherever I go!

One of my favorites:

Burma Super Star (San Francisco) Get the sesame chicken, coconut rice, poodi, tea leaf salad, and ginger lemonade. Divine.

San Antonio, Texas-
Azuca Sabor Latina. Get the steak medallion and the chocolate lava cake.
Taco Cabana, for good cheap fast-food Mexican.
Hung Fongs for Chinese food

Bandera, Texas-
Busbee's BBQ. Get anything, it's all fantastic.

Thank you very much! I still haven't been to Texas. Gotta get out there someday.

Also, this place right by my house in SLC called "A Taste of Thai". They have the BESTEST CURRY EVER. And the fried bananas and ice cream is to DIE for.

If you are ever in Columbus, I am totally taking you to Nazareth. It's Middle Eastern cuisine--I love the Chicken Shawarma--and the owner is so, so awesome. He walks around with a bat and offers 'free attitude adjustments', lol. It's locally owned and really quite a success story. The service is always great, the food is delicious and quickly prepared and the french fries are quite possibly orgasmic.

I'm going to go for something more casual. I am in LOVE with Hound Dogs pizza in Columbus. It is a pretty unusual place, graffiti on the walls and a large classic car hood for a menu. It's kind of an indy place that is open nearly 24/7. I suggest getting a Smokin Joe's crust Pesto Pie (pesto, mozzarella, feta, olives, and tomato.) Num num num.

It's nothing fancy, but I love this place. The service sucks pretty bad during peak hours, but it's part of the charm really. Anytime before 8pm is usually not bad though, the place can actually be quite dead. Servers are likely to have mohawks, or any other variety of piercings, hair color and tattoos.

It's an experience for sure.

LOL, NOLA

I haven't been in years and don't even know if it's still there, but I used to seriously *love* Grandeho's Kamekyo on Cole Street in Cole Valley (between Carl and Parnassus).

Thai Basil in Fullerton, Ca. Try the Massaman... spicy and delicious as all get out.

Mandarin Taste in Anaheim Hills, Ca. Do not go there without pigging out on the Mu Shu Chicken.

Yum. The first ones that come to my mind are Massawa in Lower Haight and La Med on Noe and Market. I think being in Olympia I'm not getting my ethnic food fix.

FYI: Massawa isn't in the Lower Haight. It's on Haight between Ashbury and Clayton.

And there are *much* better restaurants that serve Ethiopian/Eritrean food. Next time you're in the Bay Area, try Cafe Colucci in on Telegraph in Oakland.

What?! I LOVE Massawa!

Not saying Massawa is bad. It's pretty good actually. I remember going there when they first opened. I lived around the corner for close to 20 years, don't forget! I'm just saying that I've actually found *better* ones, believe it or not! Telegraph Avenue in North Oakland (Temescal/Rockridge) has a plethora of Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurants.

Road trip. That's all I'm saying!

Let's do it!

There's a strip of Fairfax near George's house called Little Ethiopia. I keep wanting to stop there for lunch. There are like 15 Ethiopian restaurants on one block.

That's right. There was one in Lower Haight when I lived there though, maybe it's gone now? It was better (and less expensive) than Massawa. I also remember that the Massawa employees tended to be treated really poorly.

Thanks for the recommendation on Cafe Colucci.

Oh, Yeah...

The Elite Cafe on Fillmore used to be a favorite, but I hear they've gone down hill recently. I haven't eaten there for years.

Also, go have brunch at Nona's Kitchen on Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica. If the owner/chef is working, his name is Joreth. Tell him you're my friend. We've been buds since we were 14 and went to different high schools together.
