Someone's going to shoot me for even thinking about this, but...

Is anyone out there using the free, ad-supported version of LJ? I want to preview and see how bad it is.

I'm not, but you could always start it up and then cancel it. I believe that a friend of mine tried it, didn't like it, and switched back. But I don't know what his reasoning was for why he didn't like it.

My friend, mystress_fyre, who joined only to read my journal, seems to be using it. I guess it's the new default now. The ads appear on both her profile and in the journal portion.

I think it's pretty bad, personally. But that's just me.

I clicked on her username to see what it looks like (I never saw John's ^ before he took it down) - but I don't see anything. I'm wondering if it's because I'm a paid member?

I really want to see it!!! =)

Ahh, but see you're a "Paid Member." As one of the benefits of paid membership you don't have to see the ads. We free users are the only ones so "blessed."

Your friend John still has the ads too, by the way. You just can't see them!

Wow, trippy that only free members can see them. I can see them on both the pages you two suggested. They aren't that intrusive to my eye. But I just know some of my super cool paid user friends would frown on my for going that route. Hey wait... they are paid users, they'd never know! Mua ha ha!!!

What are the benefits for doing the ads as opposed to not doing them?

15 userpics as opposed to 3. I have ganked SO many LJ icons and am unable to use them so far.

He must have gone back to them - he posted that he was unhappy with them and turned that off.

I have a crafts account that's not paid. I'm going to check it out =)
