I don't have a lot of time to update, but I just wanted to say that I was privileged to be at an intense and beautiful birth yesterday. Gorgeous Baby Girl was born after a relatively short labor, during daylight hours, in time for me to get home to nurse my own sweet baby, and conveniently with enough time to get a full night's sleep before showing up for the ACOS survey at work today. You can't ask for more in doula-land.

I'm still high from the love rush in that L&D room!

Awww, how wonderful! This is what I'm mostly afraid of with starting to do work as a doula - being away from my family, finding someone to watch Noah on short notice, etc. I suppose as you do it more often it becomes easier?

You know, it's funny--so far it has worked out fine every time. I was worried that it would be much harder with a kid, though. There is definitely an added level of coordination going on. I'm lucky that my husband is so flexible (actually he works very little, so I'm not so lucky on that count.) But it's SO worth it, really, no matter what! You'll figure it out.

Thanks. Of course, you get to do this most days! But I love the doula role. I would have a harder time with the responsibilities of midwifery. Although, to put my hands on the baby and guide him/her out into the world... wow...
