I've said it before and I'll say it again...

I LOVE MY DIVA CUP!!!

I love it especially when I'm traveling. Nothing to remember to bring, just wear it and it's with you always. Just pull it out once in a while, dump it out, rinse it off, and stick it back in. This thing is so low maintenance, it's the reason I've been able to stay sane about my moon coming back.

And on the same subject, I love that term "moon"--hi Wendy!--even though my phases do not resemble the 28-day waxing/waning moon cycle in the least. Personally I use the term "DFR" which is something I made up in high school, when I was feeling quite a lot of anger and animosity toward the whole affair. It stands for Damn Effin' Rag. That's the abbreviation I still use on my calendar. But while I'm fond of it from a nostalgic standpoint, the fire of my youth and all that, I'm no longer so angry, and I have some vague sense that it's nice to honor the cycles and phases of the body.

What about you, ladies? (Gentlemen are excused from replying on this one.) What term do you favor? Where did it come from? Why do you like it?

When speaking of it (though I rarely do), I just say "my period." Since spending more time on MDC, I've picked up typing "AF." In my organizer (when I was tracking before Robert was conceived) it was "dotty" - just so no one would know what it was if they were looking over my shoulder with me for other info on the calendar.

That "AF" thing is kindof funny... I've always hated the words it stands for, not sure why. I love "dotty" though, very clever!

I could never get the cups to work well. Always kept leaking so I finally gave up.

Now, cervical caps on the other hand! I'm all about that. Although, I just heard from my dr. the other day that the company in England that makes them has stopped shipping them here. BUMMER.

No way! That sucks. I used a cervical cap for a while, though it dislodged a couple of times and made me nervous. Well, it was forcibly dislodged, ahem. Anyway, that's too bad the cup didn't work for you--maybe it's an anatomical thing. The silicone one stays in better than the latex one did for me.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to call you back the other day. I have friends in from out of town and nothing else has gotten done, even essential things, until 4am so that leaves social calls out. I'll try you as soon as I can. Thanks for the crib tip mama. :-)

Yeah, you definitely wants the cap to fit SNUG! Even after three kids, mine is still the same size and stills stays put. Kind of amazing. I'm so SO bummed that they're no longer available. Maybe I'll try the latex cup... someday when my period makes a reappearance! Yep, that's my name for it. It's periodic, so... :) I remember my mom always called it the curse, but I've never felt that way about it.

I didn't really expect you to get back to me. You sounded really busy. Basically, if you can tell me what kind you're looking for (blonde wood, dark wood, convertible, co-sleeper...?) I can keep a sharp eye out around here. There's always something.

Aunt Flow likes to pay me a visit every 28 days or so. Geez Lisa, thanks for the heads up on the whole Diva Cup thing.....I have N.E.V.E.R. heard of it before. I think I might have to check it out. I used the instead cups for a couple years in SF, and really liked them....unless I coughed or sneezed. Geez, it was bad. I take it there's no such problem with the DC?

I miss you girly.

Hi!!! The diva cup doesn't leak for me when I cough or sneeze, it's pretty firm and stays in there pretty solidly. I do wear a pantiliner type cloth pad with it most of the time, just because you can never quite mop everything out of yourself, you know, and it sits up high by the cervix so... anyway. I love it and I highly recommend it if you're OK with insertion type stuff.

I remember Instead! Wonder if they still sell those? They seemed so awkward to me.

I've been thinking of you lots, especially because guess what sound Blue makes all the time now? This low, guttural, back-of-the-throat uuuuuuhhhhh sound, something I know you've heard before. I don't know where he picked it up but he's been doing it for a couple of weeks now. Oh joy. :-)

I like to make a low, guttural , back-of-the-throat uuuuuuhhhhh sound. Perhaps he picked that up from me? ;)
