Of all the household cleaning chores that I hate, and there are many, I have finally decided which one I hate the most. It's scrubbing the bathtub. I HATE IT. I hate getting down on my knees, and I hate how hard I have to scrub and how I always end up scraping some skin off of my knuckles and it stings, and I hate how I can never seem to get the dang thing truly clean no matter what. I just hate it.

What's yours?

Same.

A few years ago, Gord offered to do the chore I hated most, since I do all the housework. I gave him bathrooms, and he's cleaned them for the past 6 years or so. I only have to clean them when he's TDY. And dude, even worse than the damn tub is all the little boy pee EVERYWHERE - the toilet seat, down the sides on the toilet, on the floor, on the side of the bathtub. Ugh.

Ha ha, I know, huh?! I love those Clorox wipes for the toilet, and they are the only expensive, wasteful, toxic thing I still use for cleaning. (I should probably buy something toxic for the bathtub since I hate it so much, but nope.) I just can't stand cleaning the toilet with a sponge and then KEEPING THE SPONGE. Ew. Much better to throw away the Clorox wipes. Not very eco-groovy, but that's where I draw the line.

You're so lucky you have someone to clean the bathrooms.

when i clean the bathroom* i use biokleen bac-out spray (yummy yummy smells like limes!), and either use the washcloths which i throw directly into the hamper after use or use baby wipes. still not the grossness of the sponge, but a little less evil than the clorox.

though speaking of evil, clorox, and toilets, my toilet brush is broken (can be used but not ideal) so i bought one of those set ups with a plastic handle and disposable bleach-filled scrubbers for cleaning inside the toilet. it's kind of awesome, kind of evil, and also scary because you have to make sure the scrubbers are kept away from kids/animals.

*i do a "keeping it decent" cleaning most days i'm not at work but the tub only gets cleaned by cleo every two weeks. well except for when it just needs to be wiped down or if caleb yells at me "mommy! your hair! gross!"

I didn't even know about the bleach-filled scrubbers! I'm going to stay away for now... one evil bathroom technique (clorox wipes, for me) is enough. :)

Blue picks each hair out of the bathtub methodically and calls me in to take it from him. Although he hasn't done that lately, so either my the bathtub isn't full of my hair anymore or he gave up.

Does the biokleen stuff get the tub actually clean or do you still have to scrub the tub?

Well I use it on sink and toilet, cleo does the tub, with a brush I think? But no it isn't like the scrubbing bubbles or anything...

Same here. I hate doing bathrooms in general, but the tub is definitely the worst part of cleaning that room.

I hate doing the dishes. I can't stand touching squishy food, and there are days that I miss having a dishwasher so much that I cry about it.

Bathrooms used to be my least favorite for the same reasons you hate it. Then I found this (http://www.scrubbingbubbles.com/products.aspx?product=mega-showerfoamer) stuff. IT IS INCREDIBLE. I spray everything with it, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it down really fast and rinse. I haven't scrubbed a tub since I found it. This cleaner eats through EVERYTHING. ♥ What used to take me 45 minutes to do now takes about 15.

Hmmmmmmmmm... I am tempted to buy something like that for the tub. I'll have to research the ingredients a little.

I used to squick out on grody food/dishes so much! I think I'm relatively immune now (maybe due to motherhood?) but I understand. I love having a dishwasher for sure.

Floors ~ damn, I HATE cleaning floors. All kinds ~ tile (the. worst.), carpet, linoleum, and even hard wood ones. With little kids and a dog, the floor always looks like crap. Even with the latest cool gadgets to tackle these floors, it's just a horrible chore.

Yeah, I still haven't found the right tool for the floors. I rarely do them, embarrassingly enough.

emptying the dishwasher!

I actually like cleaning bathrooms. It's so easy to see the progress.

I always *think* I hate it, and have a hard time making myself do it, but then when I do I like the organizational aspect. Blue likes to help me though, so maybe I'll do as you do.

Yeah, that's kinda weird... although I love having my own particular method of loading it, so maybe I have the same issue.

Gratifying to know. Got any tricks to share?

Okay, cleaning the toilet is nasty.....especially sharing it with boy/man. Ugh. But I agree with you ~ the bathtub is the WORST!!!! It's especially bad right now with glass doors, and one of them is broken and off track so you can't open it on one end, making it nearly impossible to clean. So I don't do it until it's so bad I can't stand it anymore.

I really wish we had a maid.

I love how many people agree with me about the bathtub! I keep thinking I'll get a maid like twice a year and leave it for them. I've done that before, actually, but I cannot foresee affording a maid in the future so I'm going to have to face the tub here pretty soon.

Laundry is my nemesis, because it just piles up so fast around here.
What kind of tub do you have? Porcelain? Acrylic?

I guess it's porcelain. It's old-school but not a clawfoot. Got any tricks to share?

I'm an equal opportunity distainer of housework and dislike all of it equally, especially any
Thing involving mold. Good thing I moved to the PNW, eh?!?

There is just always something beter to do than clean.

Trying to get better though. The more often I do the easier it is.

Date: 2010-02-05 07:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] twirlgrrl.livejournal.com
LOL, yeah, the PNW is not the best place to avoid mold. Hawaii is worse though, I think, depending on which side of the island you are on.

I'm getting better too... slowly but surely...

when i lived in a halfway house my favorite chore was to clean the bathroom because it would be so shiny and clean when i was done. i didn't want anyone to use it! but then in other apts i've found bathroom cleaning very frustrating because all my bathrooms since them have had areas/aspects that make it impossible to ever have a nice shiny clean end-result.

From: [identity profile] twirlgrrl.livejournal.com
Yeah, the older the place the harder it is to clean. In my first apartment in the city, it was an 1880s or 1890s building and the kitchen AND the bathroom were impossible.
