I broke it

I broke one of my MyBook 500GB external hard drives. By leaving it in a place where Blue could get to. He dropped it. After Evan warned me of the possibility and told me to move it away from the edge of the desk. Bleah.

The good thing is, now I can justify buying a new one, and I can get the fancier version (with Firewire for extra-fast backups) for less than I paid for the broken one. The bad thing is, it'll still cost me around $200.

The good thing is, it's a business expense, so it's tax-deductible. The bad thing is, that only means that a smallish percentage of it is actually "free."

Another bad thing... I used that drive for backup of my really huge files, some of which I had to delete on my (merely 300GB) internal hard drive to free up some space. So I've lost the digital versions of those files, and I'll have to recreate them (meaning I'll need to re-capture the digital video from tapes.)

So I guess overall it's a bad thing. But I am excited about getting the newer version anyway. I almost bought a terabyte - !!! - but can't really justify that quite yet. The terabyte drives will be cheaper later anyway.
